The Words Between (Songcreation)

Throughout this course, students will be on the enriching journey of song creation. From crafting compelling lyrics to shaping captivating melodies and mastering the art of recording, students will receive comprehensive guidance at every step. By the course's conclusion, every student will proudly showcase their original song in a dedicated YouTube playlist. Whether they prefer to keep it private or share it with the world is entirely up to them. The Words Between Project cultivates a safe and supportive environment where students can harness the transformative power of music to process their feelings authentically and creatively.

Hello! My name is Phoebe, and I am currently a junior at Polytechnic.

Ever since I was little, I was pretty involved with music. Whether playing the cello or learning the ukulele alone, music has shaped me into the person I am today. I am a person who feels and finds it more accessible to process them through music. The first song I ever wrote was in 2nd grade. As I grew older and learned more instruments, I developed a lot of original music. I started with just lyrics and then wrote songs with the ukulele, then the guitar, and now I've been exploring music production online. I hope to use my experience with processing life as a teen through music to guide others to do the same.

Week 1: Intro class

  • Introduction/overview of class

  • Bandlab intro

  • Show behind the scenes of Bandlab with my own song

  • Account creations

  • Create shared project with me


Week 2: Intro to lyrics

  • Wordhippo, rhymzone

  • Brainstorming

  • Intro to different structures

  • HW: continue to write song


Week 3: Backing Track Intro

  • Intro to youtube playlist

  • Lyric check in with students +picking out backing track


Week: 4

  • Youtube to mp3 tutorial + transfer to bandlab

  • Recording tutorial

  • Individual time to record or finish lyrics

  • Check in w/break out rooms


Week 5:

  • Exporting tutorial

  • Time to complete song

  • Final presentation

  • Explained resources
