Business Fundamentals

Students will learn to use critical thinking and problem solving skills to identify a need/want that consumers have, or a problem in the world and create a product/service that addresses the opportunity they spot. They will also learn presentation and teamwork strategies which are essential skills they can apply in the real world. This course allows students who have little to no prior knowledge of business to get an overview of the different aspects of business, allowing them to decide if they want to dive deeper into a certain business operation.

Hi! My name is Eva, and I am currently a sophomore at Valley Christian High School. This is my second year participating in the DECA program at my school, which is a business competition for categories such as entrepreneurship, marketing, operations, human resources, finance, and more. I have taken business courses such as Entrepreneurship Honors and Entrepreneurship Practicum, and I am currently working in the business operations division to develop my school’s student store, Walley’s. In the summer, I attended a two week long summer program at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, where I got to work with a team to develop our own business plan and pitch it in front of judges. I enjoy learning about business because I like how it requires creativity to come up with new innovative ideas to solve problems. It allows me to push myself past the boundaries of what can be accomplished right now, and instead think about what can be accomplished in the future.
